Meet The Winemaker - Bryan Currie

Bryan Currie is a highly accomplished, award-winning winemaker and we consider ourselves extremely lucky to have him at the helm here at Dalwood Estate. Like a lot of people in the wine industry, Bryan didn’t choose wine – it chose him. After completing his studies in palaeontology, not to mention discovering an incredibly important fossil in Queensland, he discovered his interest while working as a vineyard hand in the Yarra Valley.

His passion ignited, Bryan returned to university to study winemaking. At the same time he sought hands-on experience, working as assistant winemaker for McWilliams before going on to become chief winemaker for Calabria Family wines. Looking for a new challenge and drawn to the unique climate, traditions and history of the Hunter Valley, Bryan came aboard as head winemaker for Hungerford Hill and Dalwood.

As a winemaker, Bryan’s approach emphasises a light touch, allowing the fruit to express the unique terroir and heritage of its place in the Hunter Valley. And looking forward, it is this respect for the region’s winemaking history that shapes his vision for Dalwood; to restore the brand and property to its former glory as one of the top winegrowers in the country.
