We’re delighted to share that our 2025 Dalwood Estate Fiano has been named Fiano of the Year in the 2027 Halliday Wine Companion, receiving 95 points and taking out the inaugural award for the variety.

For a vineyard with a history stretching back to 1828, this recognition feels particularly special.

A New Chapter for Fiano in the Hunter

Fiano may have its roots in southern Italy, but it has found a compelling home in the Hunter Valley.

Bright, expressive and beautifully textural, our 2025 Fiano reflects both the versatility of the variety and the evolution of winemaking at Dalwood Estate. Halliday’s 2027 award is particularly significant as this is the first year Fiano of the Year has been included as a standalone category, recognising the growing importance of the variety across Australia.

For us, the award is not simply about one wine. It is a reflection of the work being done in the vineyard, the quality of the fruit and the continued willingness to explore what this historic Hunter Valley site can produce.

It Starts in the Vineyard

Behind every bottle is the work of the people who care for the vines throughout the year. Jeff and the vineyard team play an integral role in shaping the wines of Dalwood Estate, working season by season to ensure the fruit arrives at the winery with the balance, freshness and character we are looking for.

It is that attention to detail in the vineyard that allows varieties such as Fiano to show their full potential, while also supporting the classic Hunter Valley varieties that have defined Dalwood for generations.

The Fiano award sits alongside another strong result for Dalwood Estate in the 2027 Halliday Wine Companion, with the winery recognised as a Five Star Winery and two of our estate reds receiving 96 points.

The 2023 Dalwood Estate Shiraz and 2023 Dalwood Estate Tempranillo Touriga were both awarded 96 points, further highlighting the quality and versatility of this historic vineyard.
